Throwing Muses "University"

Throwing Muses University (1995)

After the 1991 release of The Real Ramona, Tanya Donelly left TM and started Belly. The future of TM looked bleak and their next album Red Heaven didn't help. Belly's debut, Star, did very well and they had a big hit with "Feed The Tree".

In 1994 Kristin Hersh put out her first solo record, Hips & Makers, which did surprisingly well and helped raise TM's profile. There was a new Muses album recorded and it finally came out on Valentines Day 1995, the same day Belly put out their second album, King.

Both bands got a lot of exposure that year; "Throwing Muses" was printed on the cover of Rolling Stone above the masthead. Belly got a full cover story that spring. As it turns out, TM had their first hit with "Bright Yellow Gun" and Belly's singles sold poorly and after a lot of touring they broke up.
